Economics of Innovation

The department Economics of Innovation has been newly founded in 1997. Besides two full professors (Dr Alfred Kleinknecht and Dr Marina van Geenhuizen), the scientific staff consists of 7 tenured lecturers and  a number of PhD students. 

We provide courses in Economics and Management, with a special emphasis on innovation and technological change. These courses are open to students from all engineering faculties.

Our research focuses on the economic determinants of innovation and technological change. Recent research includes econometric analysis of large databases on innovative behaviour in manufacturing and service industries, and the relation between economic regulation, wage costs, profits and innovation. Besides internally funded research, we undertake contract research for the national government and for international agencies (European Commission, OECD and others).
